James Holden - Imagine This Is A High Dimensional Space Of All Possibilities
Border Community
James Holden's fourth studio album feels like the infinite. A vast landscape that doesn't begin and doesn’t end. As far as the eye can see, as far as the ear can hear. 'Imagine This...' is my first encounter with the surreptitiously outlandish and playful worlds of James Holden. Sitting somewhere between ambient and IDM, and sneaking under the radar and soaring above the firmament, Imagine This collides with the ethereal; evoking a warm and soothing sense of 'home'.
Imagine This is of an organic nature - it falls and flows off of, and through, itself. It feels untouched; it breathes; it's alive - sculpted by the ether, hands of a psychic nature. Reading between the lines. The lines themselves are in between - between the forever. Abundant with thriving soundscapes, the bustling spaces that Holden brings to mystical life slowly come to. Minute details sneak up on the listener - like waves miles out, they eventually make it to shore.
Busy, but well organised and maintained. Like a beautiful garden, each element enhances another. The world provides and feeds its own purpose - a self-fulfilling prophecy. It's aware of the happenings of the outside world, though no attention is given to it. Knowledge serves no purpose in these parts. The vessel that knowledge travels on is of another time - words ceased to exist millennia ago. Things are understood solely based off of vibrations deep within the soul. A resonant understanding - relatable on another level. Under the skin and above the noise - tip-toeing on the edge of something else, something other. There are other worlds than these. Places that tap to a different tune, stand on a different plane.
Progressive electronics of a reminiscently hopeful demeanour.
