Against All Logic - 2012 - 17

February 17th, 2018.
Against All Logic, the alias of New York producer Nicolas Jaar, shows a different side of the multi-faceted world of Jaar's repertoire. The characteristics of Jaar's music - downtrodden, eclipsed and feeling somewhat blue - are all here, with an extra sweet, sweet swing in their step.
Nicolas Jaar's 2010's run was topped-off by a deep and, suffice to say, endlessly groovy house hamper - full of the goods. Abundant in reverberance and darkly melodic foreboding, 2012-17 treads a fine line between funky, sinister, soulful and downright dirty. Backed by an underlying sense of apprehension - feet on the dancefloor, one eye on surroundings, the other eye kept busy by reading overpowering internal monologue - 2012-17 is certainly under the weather. Umbrella in hand, opened wide, expectations to stay dry are also at hand. The rain drip drip drips through. Weighed down by excess baggage but accompanied by a deeply rooted need to keep moving. Shedding the skin of stagnation, the souls stepping stones must be crossed. Heavy legs and even heavier hearts must be met halfway.
Getting up while getting down is the name of the game. Sights are set on having a good time, but your soul and spirit require attention too. Satiating both sides of the coin keeps things in check. There's no heads without tails - equal measures must be met.
Aesthetically damp and often times drenched in a dour mood, with 2012-17 AAL blends soothing and brooding into one smooth demeanour.
