Miles Davis - In a Silent Way

July 30th, 1969.

Columbia

In a Silent Way saw Davis's electric period come to life - a period of fruitful results to say the least. The coolest limb ever gone out on. An artistic stamp of unfiltered vibrancy. The breeze which tickled the leaves. The storm which strengthened the roots.

Pocketed grooves. Spacious, though sharp - slicing. Loose, though tight-knit - mechanical. Free, though aware of the constraints that come this way. Floating with feet on the ground. The tide which goes out as it comes in - many a soul swept up along the way. A rather rhythmic no mans land. A dance of the dangerous kind. Playing with time itself. The domino's in motion. Falling forwards; living backwards. Off the cuff. Off the top. Off the earth. Off the dunes of the fucking mind and deep into the subconscious. Into the underworld - the puppeteers playground. Careful - slopes tend to be slippery when wet. The floor beneath your feet shifts, though remains where it always was. An incongruity between perceived sights and sounds and reality blurs. It is what it is, but it also isn't. That dualistic state which slowly churns beneath the sands. That space which claims it needs to remain calm, but knows it needs to run. A relaxed alert. On the edge of something, but nowhere all the same. A vulnerable confidence. A bitter handshake. A stern warmth.

When the dust settles, and we finally put to rest this rented flesh, the unflinching lucidity that finds itself emanating off of In a Silent Way will stand tall as the purest of the pure. Crystalline as the calmest waters. Raw cut energy. A conduit for and from the source itself.
