Kyuss - Welcome to Sky Valley

June 28th, 1994.

Elektra

Viscous riffs and rhythms which lie somewhere in the ballpark of damn groovy; a wit which could be referred to as 'adolescent'; tones as caustic as acid attacks - Kyuss' 'Welcome to Sky Valley' turns 30. The psychedelically shaded pantheon of Stoner Rock met it's makers.

It's often the case that when something is slowed down it's features become more or less pronounced; it's hard to tell which way it goes at times - albeit kind of infinitely widened too. A heavy sound slowed down gains a gargantuan amount of backbone - a width which encompasses all in its vicinity. A world-rattling characteristic akin to a sonic end all. A black-hole which steals souls. Stand close and get swept up. An evil spirit resides inside the riffery; a malevolence begging to get out. Confined within six strings. Using the human hand as a mediator between worlds. A conduit for conniving activity. The puppeteer of musical innuendo. Under the surface the calloused hands are hard at work. Nibbed fingers and rotting flesh.

Welcome to Sky Valley is home to what may just be Homme at his most heavy. Thick, viscous-like riffs with the smoothness of quicksand. Heavy as a heart attack. Held under by unforeseen forces. Relentless in their talon-grip. A sinister charm. A lulling siren call - towed under. Dragged through the desert feet first - by choice - towards its beckoner. Hot sand works its way into every orifice. Filled by the hands of time. An over-spill of idle hands. Too much time. Not enough intention.

You know that you can, and will, lick my big fat doooooo.
