LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver. DFA/Capitol Records

The second album from New York electronic/dance punk collective 'LCD Soundsystem' takes from what they built with their self-titled debut, and expands it into a more focused and elaborate offering with 'Sound of Silver'. Breathing life into more expansive material, the LCD crew gifted the mid-2000's electronic scene with an offering a cut above the rest.

The Sound of Silver slowly sleuths to life on 'Get Innocuous' with the rumblings of a distant synthesized bassline edging closer into view. You will see this technique used throughout the album - slow builds and extended plateaus.

The Sound of Silver's centerpieces, 'Someone Great' and 'All My Friends', have proven to be something of staples on the electronic scene. Their essence is seemingly relatable on an incredible scale. Loss and longing being an ever-present part of existence. These two tracks run down the line of feel good, but a feeling of melancholia - numbness - persists. These tracks aren't the only exceptional pieces of music on the Sound of Silver, of course, but they have a never-ending quality to them. They exist far beyond their own sphere of influence. James Murphy's signature dry wit wraps up the metallic sounds of LCD Soundsystem with a rigorous, heedless ribbon.

Perfect for late night strolls and bouts of existential dread.

'I wish that we could talk about it, but there, that's the problem'
