King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard - Flying microtonal banana

Eastern philosophy infiltrated Western culture a long time ago, the sounds took their time, however. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, experimenting with microtonal tunings, bring their most repetitive, hallucinatory record to life through the use of iterative, and or seismic changes. The Melbourne boys and their infatuation with the psychedelic side of life comes to full fruition on 'Flying Microtonal Banana'.

Flying Microtonal Banana was the first of five full length projects released by King Gizz over the course of 2017. You read that right, the first of FIVE full length projects that year. Now that may sound disheartening to some that pay into the correct approach of quality over quantity, however, with King Gizz you have the rare occasion of the the quality remaining at a high standard throughout their five record run - an astonishing feat. As I write this they have released the better part of twenty albums in ten years.

King Gizzard are masters at experimenting without sacrifice of the overall quality of the material. Lots of albums fall victim to the experimentation’s tag - pushing new ground without a trail to follow leaves listeners stranded. These works are generally essential, but not necessarily anywhere near a level of actual quality. King Gizz give plenty of headspace and room for understanding of their work.

An oasis of musical ideas forms forth. A mirage of hypnotic and highly rhythmic anecdotes sprout new roots. Birthing ideas and with it universes. You can't really tell if what's going on is actually occurring, but you dont really mind because it's for the betterment of the new universes. It feels good too. A tangible feeling of glee persists. The flutter of your hearts wings is hard to control. Let it happen and enjoy the experience. It may never take place again, after all.
