Fugazi released their defining and, at this point in time, final album on this day in 2001. The DC collective would go on indefinite hiatus in 2003.

Two of the finest post-hardcore acts, Fugazi and Unwound, released what would become their final albums, to date, in 2001. They said farewell with alterations on their formula and sound, releasing what are commonly regarded as their respected magnum opus'. The Argument is more artistically inclined compared to the bands earliest material. It can be seen as a continuation of the experimental tendencies laced through previous projects, 1995's 'Red Medicine' and 1998's 'End Hits'.

The rhythm section and partnership of Joe Lally and Brendan Canty clocks in and reaches its groove inflicted climax. Laying a groove that feels just as good as it sounds is a hard task but is made to look and sound easy by these two rhythmic comrades. In usual Fugazi fashion MacKaye and Picciotto intertwine seamlessly to deliver hair-raising melody and passion filled performances. Fugazi's sound and style may have changed but the power and energy remains the same.

The Argument is often cited as a pillar of the Post-Hardcore genre - a must have for fans of the sound and scene. It's an album worthy of all the praise and accolades attained over the years. If it does end up being the last that we hear from the Fugazi camp, it was a noble goodbye.
