julie - pushing daisies EP
After the release of the 'Variable Bloom' EP in 2020 which featured promising tracks including 'Flutter', LA's own 'Julie' return with the release of their second EP 'pushing daisies'. Doom and Gloom with a side serving of despondent decay flavours the project, as does a feeling of persistent neglect and derelict soul space.
Shoegaze and Noise Pop combine together harmoniously in a marriage of bittersweet melodious joy and despair. The pushing daisies ep bears the essence of grunge with it's dense, gruelling mass.
Lovely layered guitars - thick and vibrant - harnace the wall of sound ethos in building impenetrable, powerful tracks. Cascading guitar work pulls you deeper into the mix, along with the lead singers disinterested delivery which dictates the mood, leading the material down the dark and dingy corridors of sullen disarray.
Sludgy opening track 'aprils bloom' starts things off, forcing the project to widen its horizons from the get-go. Things take a frantic turn with second track 'lochness'. Shoegaze's signature hoover style guitar takes center stage engulfing everything in it's immediate surroundings. Rapacious and unforgiving the spirit of Stephen Morris is trapped inside of the tracks drumwork, begging to be set free. Things take off without a second thought leaving the listener inbetween the helms of a crazed stooper. The pushing daisies EP is home to some of the best produced guitars and drums of the year. Clear, crisp and paradoxically dirty.
In the grips of a sinister weight and surrounded by sorrowful spirits, Julie carry the burden of lifes ways and woes on their shoulders. Never giving in and marching forward, enticing your soul into malevolent deeds in the process, Julie produce an EP of tremendous depth and dense in sound and feel.
The world doesn't realise that it needs a full length project from this band.
