NewDad - Waves EP
Fair Youth
NewDad are a Dream Pop/Indie rock outfit from Galway, Ireland. The Drown EP is their debut project and it features a delightful selection of tracks, curated by an up and coming act of great promise and potential.
Lush sonic scenery awaits you on NewDad's debut project. It's spacious while remaining quite dense with interesting atmospheric details and experimentation. Thick basslines keep the material from taking off onto cloud nine. They keep the tracks on earth while the guitars explore outwards with intricate offerings. There are plenty of immaculate ear worms laced within the EP's runtime.
The Waves EP is pretty much perfect pop music. It's structured and somewhat straight forward, but adds enough of the aforementioned details to render replay value. You'll find yourself whirling amidst arpeggiated serenity - ascending and descending through free-flowing soundscapes. Kaleidoscopically spinning in place, NewDad have created a project of luscious, lovable qualities. It harks back to the vibrant head space that a Cocteau Twins or Slowdive managed to delve into over the course of their respected careers.
You can tell they're fans of music. It comes through in the feel of the material. The way the songs are worked tell me that they care about making something worth returning to. They offer the listener material that reveals itself on further listening. They're playing for nobody but themselves at the same time. A trait that all great acts incorporate into their universe.
NewDad are major prospects on the burgeoning Irish Alternative scene. I'll regard this as my favourite EP of the year so far. Big things are in store for sure.
