carter c - the things i love

carter c's third album, as you would wish, builds upon his choc-a-bloc body of work to date. Skipping to life with 'nighttime oracle', a single released in the run-up to this records release date, 'the things i love... ' jump-starts the heart. A sense of angst is sparked amidst the joy, which is synonymous with coming of age material. The uncertain within the certain - a mishmash of unbridled emotion.

carter c has an infectious ear for melody and groove. Though simple and straight forward, the simplicity always pays off - pulling things through complex means can make it over-burdened with unnecessary bells and whistles. All sights and sounds within 'the things i love...' have been crafted by eccentric energy, and love for the craft. The goods that the wider world will come to know will certainly come with time and grueling effort - two things that carter c, at the age of 18, has, and is certainly willing to put effort into. Take a look at the number of albums, EP's, and side projects released over the past year or two, and you will find that the world really is his oyster. Alongside creating music, carter c finds himself running Friends House Records: a label, which the name suggests, is home to carter and his collective of talented friends. carter c is certainly here for the long haul. It's a thing of fervent passion, no question.

The penultimate 9-minute 'neon-sky' is a ravenous delve into noisier pastures - reverberant and ultimately gritty. 'Who are you now? I can feel us slipping again'. Coming to terms with the frayed ends of a relationship can be some of the most heart wrenching days, weeks, month, or years known to man. Mainlining lighthearted melody, quirky songwriting, and a knack for carefree feel, carter c wraps up the beauty of life before the weight of the world comes closing in - simultaneously keeping an eager, semi-anxious eye on the future. It is a sweet, yet somewhat existential, journey to find yourself on. Playful, fun, and refreshing. Give this album a spin if you want to feel the all inclusive lust for life creep back into view.

Friend's House Records can be seen as the purveyors of the new school. A breeding ground for precocious talents and taste.
